If potential exists only in the imagination, it's only lost if you choose to lose it. But, I might argue that all potential is of the imagination.
Every individual makes the decision to see or not to see potential in something. So, isn't all potential a creation of the mind until it actualizes? Is it just that some potential is more realistic? Still, everyone makes their own decision about what is realistic.
I'd say that all potential is of a personal opinion, and it can just as easily be lost as it can be gained again.
Practical and optimistic--two words I wouldn't use to describe myself when the matters are immediate and especially my own. If only it were easy for an individual to apply their own reasoning.

A reasoned response. Practical yet optimistic.
